Yesterday, Saturday July 6th, Mr. Bob Hixson went out fishing on his “Team Galati” 80’ Viking Skybridge. Him and his wife Amanda headed up the Sea of Cortez side to Destiladeras area, about 35 miles from Cabo. They saw schools of tuna around 25 to 35 lbs, the water was 83 F and the weather was perfect. They had already had 4 Striped Marlin bites on their trolled ballyhoo but couldn’t land any of them. And then suddenly, something hit the ballyhoo again, really hard.

“I have some friends coming down this weekend that have never caught a marlin. Maybe we should go…”, said Stan in response, but little did he know, that only 3 days later these anglers’ first time marlin would be giving them the fight of a lifetime. Stan and his group of four anglers went out on Sunday, aboard our 42ft Cabo Flybridge, Hot Rod. Captain Erick Orozco is no stranger to big fish, still, he confessed to me that he was caught off guard by the almost 700 lbs black marlin who took his bait on this day.... Last night was the culmination of three days of hard fishing resulting in euphoria for a few, renewed determination to come back next year and try again for many and disappointment for others. This is a tough tournament with a lot of very skilled anglers and captains as well as others who are just plain lucky.

Two very nice fish came to the scale late yesterday afternoon both of which had similar stories.
The first fish that was a real contender came in for Wild Hooker and angler Danny Hogan. Captain Shane and the team opted to go the opposite direction of most of the boats the last day, in fact he had done this every day of the tournament and headed up into the Sea of Cortez and world-famous Gordo Banks area. The crew on this boat are a well-oiled machine, traveling extensively to fish tournaments and investing in the latest electronics to improve their odds
