Charming, Historic, San José del Cabo
San José del Cabo has recognized the appeal of it’s quieter atmosphere and historic downtown district – and they want to keep it that way. It’s protecting its charm by investing in the redevelopment of the downtown area, now boasting a pedestrian village. With the opening of the golf residential community at Club Campestre and spectacular beachclub, world-class golf is no longer exclusive to the Tourist Corridor. The golf courses at masterplanned communities like Puerto Los Cabos (designed by Jack Nicklaus and Greg Norman) are big attractions, as is the Campestre golf course. Real estate buyers now have more choices than ever— from spectacular building sites to luxurious new homes, condominiums and fractional ownership properties—along these magnificent new courses.
The condominium market is exciting in and around San José, with many new developments offering spectacular views from the hills above the Mayan Golf Course. The expansive beaches of San José have been going through a renovation process as well, and the area is now complete with the opening of the upscale, privately owned condominiums and villas in communities like Tortuga Bay and Alegranza.
The expansive, 1,900-acre master-planned resort Puerto Los Cabos, just east of San José del Cabo, was developed along three miles of pristine white-sand beach along the Sea of Cortez. More than luxurious residences, five-star hotels and unmatched amenities, what sets Puerto Los Cabos apart from other seaside enclaves is the magnificent marina — a world-class port-of-call that is only the second in Los Cabos. The dozens of individual homes now occupied or being built in Puerto Los Cabos, Campestre San Jose, Querencia and other exclusive areas now reflect the community’s distinctive cultural identity as well as its luxurious ambience. Hacienda-style architecture updated with a contemporary twist and modern comforts still retain the traditional Mexican blend of gracious formalities and warmhearted welcome.
Finally, the San José del Cabo Airport expansion project is currently under way, and new convention center being built in time for the G20 economic summit. In a move aimed at accommodating the region’s tourist explosion, airport and tourism officials announced the airport has received a number of upgrades over the last few years. Enhancements include additional parallel landing strips to accommodate more flights, reconfigured highway access, a fourth terminal building that will adjoin a remodeled Terminal 3, and a new structure offering expanded car rental facilities, shops and business services. The expansion began in late summer 2007 and is slated for completion prior to the G20 event.
